Who We AreEvangelistic Temple is a non-denominational body of believers dedicated to reaching the lost and helping believers grow into fully devoted followers of Christ. Being aware of the changes going on around us in society, we strive to present the unchanging word of God in a way that is relevant and useful today. We believe that the local church is the greatest hope for the world, therefore we encourage every member to take an active role in carrying out the vision God has given us. Recognizing that people are not only at different places in life, but also at different places in their spiritual journey, we offer a wide range of ministries to meet each individual where they are, and help them to that next level.Led by our pastor, Jason Harris, Evangelistic Temple is what we call The Church of New Beginnings. The church has experienced tremendous growth over the past several years, as people from all over are coming to find that Jesus is in the business of life-change, and that God truly is the God of new beginnings. So whether you're young, old, middle-aged, or new-born; married, single, divorced, or widowed; a brand new Christian, long-time believer, or someone just seeking truth, Evangelistic Temple welcomes you to join us in the excitement of what God is doing, and to experience the start of a new beginning.HistoryIn the early 1930s, a small group of people began to pray that God would send a revival to the city of Palestine. Little did they know how soon those prayers would be answered and continue to be answered over 70 years later.In June of 1932, A.J. Richey, from the Richey Evangelistic Association in Houston, was asked to come lead a revival under a big tent that was erected at the corner of Conrad and Coronaca streets. What they originally thought would last a few days continued for six weeks, as hundreds of people were touched by the power and presence of God. Realizing that God desired to continue the work He started, plans were made to build a permanent structure in place of the tent, and on October 1, 1932, regular services began at Evangelistic Temple. Over seventy years later, that same power and presence is still changing lives.The church experienced tremendous growth in the late nineties, and soon the congregation outgrew the building. Plans began on a new building that would accommodate this growth, and in 2002, the church was moved to its new location on the North Loop. What's Up With the Name?Okay, we admit it the name of the church is kinda weird. What does Evangelistic Temple mean? Is it a cult? A Jewish synagogue? Mormon? What's the deal? Well, we are none of the above. We are evangelistic, meaning that we desire to share the good news of Jesus Christ to those who don't know Him. But we don't believe that the church building is a temple. We believe that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who lives inside of us. He's not confined to church walls. So, don't let the name throw you. We're just a regular body of believers who desire to love others and know Jesus. BeliefsThe sole basis of our belief is in the Bible, composed of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that Scripture in its entirety is the infallible and inerrant Word of God, and is the unique, full, and final authority on all matters of faith and practice.We believe that there is one true, Holy God, eternally existing in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that no one comes to Him apart from salvation. We believe salvation is wholly a work of God's free grace, not the result of human works or goodness, and must be personally appropriated by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.We believe Jesus is the eternal second Person of the Trinity who was united forever with a true human nature by a miraculous conception and virgin birth. He lived a life of perfect obedience to the Father, and voluntarily paid for the sins of all by dying on a cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone. He arose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died. He ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father, where He, the only Mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own. He will come again to earth, personally and visibly, to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, and was sent unto the world by the Father and the Son to apply to mankind the saving work of Christ. He enlightens the minds of sinners, awakens in them a recognition of their need for a Savior, and regenerates them. At the point of salvation, He permanently indwells every believer to become the source of assurance, strength, and wisdom, and uniquely endows each believer with gifts for the building up of the body. The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying the Scriptures. His power and control are appropriated by faith, making it possible for the believer to live a life of Christ-like character and to bear fruit to the glory of the Father.What to ExpectWhen you first come to Evangelistic Temple, you can expect to be warmly greeted and accepted as you are. You don't have to "dress up" or try to be something you're not. We encourage everyone to be themselves, and dress however is most comfortable. We won't ask for your money. During the worship service, there will be an opportunity for church members to give financially in order to support the operations of the church. We believe this is a willing act of worship, not an obligation, and will never pressure or manipulate anyone into giving their money.We realize that not everyone has the same taste in music styles. Therefore, we offer different styles in each of our morning worship services. Our 8:30 service utilizes hymns and southern gospel to worship through music. Our 10:45 service uses contemporary praise and worship music. Each service contains the same sermon given by Jason Harris, or an associate pastor.We encourage everyone to worship however they see fit. Many people stand during the songs, some sit. Some people raise their hands in praise to God, others don't. Some bow, some dance, some clap, and some just quietly reflect in silence. We believe that worship through song is a personal, physical demonstration of adoration to God, and should be done according to personal preference without being a distraction to others.Instead of hymnals or music books, the words to every song are projected on two screens at the front of the auditorium. We also use video to either enhance the worship experience, or to illustrate an idea in the sermon. The service lasts approximately one hour. We usually dismiss from our 10:45 service between 12:00 and 12:15. LeadershipThe leadership structure of Evangelistic Temple is based on what we interpret as the Biblical model of church leadership. We have seven men who serve as elders of the church. These elders meet regularly with the pastor and church council. They pray together and seek God's will in making decisions for the church body. The pastor sets the direction and goals of the church and the elders make sure we stay on course in order to meet those goals God has given. The qualifications for elders are based on I Timothy 3:1-7 and are elected to 2 year staggered terms by the church body.We also have men who serve as deacons. The role of deacons at Evangelistic Temple are not one of authority, but of service. They make sure the needs of the church body are being met. Each deacon is assigned several families in the church who they keep in contact with, making sure things are taken care of if a need arises. The number of deacons in the church are based on the size of the congregation. As more families join, more deacons are added. The qualifications for deacons are based on I Timothy 3:8-13 and are appointed by the pastor and church elders.The council is made up of the pastor, seven elders, the chairman of the deacons, the council secretary, the church treasurer, and the chairman of the trustees (the trustees are 4 members who deal with the physical property of the church). The church council meets once a month to make the business decisions of the church.

CLASSES

Join us every Wednesday night at 6:30PM for Bible Study. This semester's classes are:Becoming a Friend of God - A Study of Abraham. This is a class for women only, led by Lori Wolf and Lorri Baack. This class is for those who enjoy digging into the Word and discovering hidden treasures. You will learn how to really study God's word, getting more out of it than you do at a mere glance. This class requires dedication and discipline, therefore it is limited to the first 10 who sign up. A small fee is required to cover cost of materials.James: Mercy Triumphs. This is also a women's class, led by Janis Harris and Colleen Rodgers. This study, developed by Beth Moore, will let you see how one glimpse of the resrrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. Topics in this study include joy, hardships, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, dangers of the tongue, humility, and prayer.Creation Part 1, Fossils and Dinosaurs. This is a class for men and women, led by Tom LeMay. There is a growing trend of people-even in the church-questioning the reliability of the accounts of creation in Genesis. See how what you believe about the beginning affects the rest of your faith. Learn facts that will stregthen your ability to defend the case for creation. See how it all points to Jesus.The Five Love Languages. This class is for married or soon-to-be-married couples. Led by Phillip and Monica Davis, it guides couples into identifying, understanding, and speaking their spouse's primary love language. Connect with other couples and gain tools to developing a lasting, loving marriage together.Iron Men is a class for men only, led by the senior pastor, Jason Harrid. It is based on Proverbs 27:17 - "Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Men will come together to support and strengthen one another in fulfilling the roles God has creaed for us. We will also study God's Word together, gaining a greater appreciation for our standard of life.Overcomers is a class for men and women who are struggling with addiction. Led by Scott Shaver, it gives people the accountability and support needed to overcome strongholds in life, no matter what that may be. It is also great for those who have loved ones struggling with addiction, as well.Why We Do The Things We Do. Like Paul says in Romans 7:19, we often do the very thing we don't want to do, even when we know what we should do. Is there something in your life that keeps coming up; something that you continue to struggle with? David Hennessee, who is a licensed counselor, will once again lead this group for men and women, in struggling how to access the power of God we have as believers, through His Word and the grace of Jesus Christ.Abraham to Exodus is a class led by Lloyd Wittenburg. Designed for men and women, it is simply a study of scripture, looking specifically at some of the very beginnings and foundations of our faith. Learn how stories in the Old Testament were pointing people to Jesus, even back then.Experiencing God is a Bible study developed by Henry Blackaby that has been around for several years. It has been key in impacting the lives of people in a big way, taking their relationship with God to a deeper level. God is always moving. Learn how to recognize it and get in on what He is doing. This class is led by one of the church elders, Jimmy Pryor.

Vecinos En Cristo

One of the hands-on mission endeavors in which Evangelistic Temple participates is work in Mexico. We work with a non-profit organization operating as "Vecinos en Cristo" (Neighbors in Christ), consisting of various churches in the community and county. Each church has two representatives who serve on a board to make decisions about the mission work projects. Working together, these churches strive to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through words and deeds. AquismonEach Spring, usually in March, Vecinos en Cristo make a trip to Aquismon, in the state of San Luis Potosi, MX. Care & Share

Care and Share is a ministry of Evangelistic Temple that helps prepare food for families with illness, funerals, new babies, etc. We prepare the food, and then deliver it to the family in need for periods of time ranging from a day or two, to a full week--depending on the specific need.If you know of anyone that has a need of this kind, please contact Linda Barnett at 903-729-5552. Children

Looking for a fun, safe, and exciting environment for your children to learn about the Word of God? At Evangelistic Temple, ministering to children is a priority. Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. (Mat. 19:14) Therefore, we want to make this a place where kids feel comfortable a kids zone, you might say. Kids Zone is a name that our kids came up with. They said, This is a place for kids. We are quite honored they feel this way!For security and protection of each child, all children are checked into the classes by their parents or adult guardians. The child will receive a nametag and ID card for you to keep. Children will only be released to the cardholders. If your child needs you, the number on the ID card will be displayed on the screens in the sanctuary.We feel that all children's classes are an area of ministry, not just a babysitting service. Therefore, the classes are divided into age groups for the best quality learning experience. Your child will experience God's love from our caring staff, interact with other children, and learn lif-changing lessons.Little Lambs Nursery (Infants, ages 0-17mos.)The infant nursery is staffed with caring people who will take care of your infant, feed them, change them, play with them, and most importantly, start their first steps in learning about Jesus.Toddler Farm (18mos-2yrs)In this room, the children will be surrounded by loving people, animals to talk about, and many safe toys. Since they are very active, this class is designed for the toddler on the move, with active stories, songs, crafts, and playtimes. There will be lots of other children for them to interact with, and they will have so much fun learning about Gods love, theyll forget youre gone!Noahs Ark Preschool (3 year olds)We believe it is a privilege to give our little ones tender loving care, therefore our room is filled with an ark and many safe toys with which the children can play. At every service, they will be quite busy with songs, story time, craft time, and play time. Many children have such a great time, they beg to stay!Candyland (Preschool, ages 4-5)God has a great plan for your child. He wants them to have a full, abundant life! In Candyland, theyll learn about the great relationship that God has in store for them. These kids will love their hands-on curriculum, worship, friends, and loving teachers. And possibly, a trip to the candy store!Kids Zone (1st-5th grade)We looked through the eyes of a child and came up with Kids Zone. Our room, music, and lessons reflect a place where kids feel safe and want to be, and its a place where they would want to bring their friends. Our services look something like this: As the children enter, we break the ice with fun games, then we motivate the kids to become actively involved in the highly energetic worship, rather than entertainment. The primary goal is to teach the Word of God creatively. We want our kids to know that the Bible is alive and that they can apply it today to their situations. Intercessory Prayer

The prayer team meets every Sunday night at 5 PM. These warriors seek God for the leadership and direction of the church ministries. Prayer includes standing against Satan's attacks and calling down Gods mighty power for life transformation and intervention. During this time, we pray for the church body as a whole, as well as individual requests placed on the prayer cards each week.God answers prayer! It is a joy for us to lift up needs, knowing He will answer them in His will and His timing. Music Ministry

Here at Evangelistic Temple we strive to offer a worship experience that will touch the hearts of all who participate. We serve our community with two services. Our 8:30 service on Sunday mornings is a traditional hymn service, and our 10:45 Sunday morning service is a contemporary worship service. We believe that music and the arts are tools that are to be used wisely to assist others in their worship. In all of our services, we offer state-of-the-art multi-media and visual presentations. Whether you are stirred by those good old hymns or you are more geared towards current worship choruses, here at Evangelistic Temple there is a place for you. We believe that all instruments can be an asset in the worship experience. We utilize piano, keyboards, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass guitars, drums and other accent instruments to enhance our worship. Prayer Chain

The prayer chain is one of the most important ministries of Evangelistic Temple. It is a way to initiate the prayers of the members of the church on behalf of those in need of prayer, in a matter of minutes. If you have a prayer request that you would like to bring to the prayer chain, please call the church office at 903-729-2863. Radiant Ladies

Shirley Gerulatt and Patricia Phillips are co-founders of this wonderful group of "Radiant Ladies", and we thank God for His encouraging us to start this important ministry, where we can share and grow and study about Him.We meet every Thursday morning in room W6, from 10AM - 12 Noon, and are currently studying God's Plan For the Ages.This ladies' ministry was started in April, 2004, as a Bible Study, exercise group, and prayer team. Body-Mind-Spirit is our motto. At this time, the exercise part is a little wanting, as a few of us have aged and our bones and bad knees tell us so! But we do try to move, even if it is just walking inside the building.Prayer is our most important calling. We have heard of many answered prayers that we have offered up to the Lord over these years of serving God's people. We are, indeed, prayer warriors.Not all "Radiants" are ET members. We have several ladies from other churches in Palestine. One Lord over all!We sometimes "celebrate" just being us with lunch out. We also have a birthday lunch for those celebrating their birthdays every second Thursday.Radiant Ladies have spun off another ministry at Cartmell Home for the ladies there that are interested in quilting. Bertha Graham and Beverly Brown are in charge of that ministry. Seniors Fellowship

Come join our Senior Adult fellowship group. They meet every fourth Thursday of the month at 11:30 a.m., and occassionaly throughout the year at 6PM. You can check the church calendar for specific dates. This meeting consists of a wonderful lunch of homemade goodies (please feel free to bring a covered dish or dessert to share, if you are able) and a special program geared toward senior adult needs, or a special music program. It is a time of sharing around the table in Christian fellowship. There is also a time of prayer asking God to meet the needs of the church and the fellowship group. We have a network that keeps the group informed of needs in our senior adults, and they work together as a support group to each other. You are invited to join us each month and fellowship with us. Women's Vineyard

Evangelistic Temple has a very active ministry for women. No matter what age or place in life a woman may find herself, there is a place for her to feel connected and cared for.Womens Vineyard is a ministry to women of the church and our community. Ladies meet quarterly, so check the church calendar for dates & times. The ladies bring a salad, covered dish, or dessert. We fellowship around a meal together, then enjoy an up-lifting time of worship and wonderful, useful teaching from special speakers. We work hand-in-hand with our Care and Share ministry to reach families in need across the city, and attend several conferences and women's retreats each year.Our desire is for women of all ages to catch a vision of who they are in Christ, and to find their place in the church body, guiding one another to become fully devoted followers of Christ.Contact: Irl Gray 903-729-1225 < YOUTH

Youth

Young people are important to us at Evangelistic Temple, and it shows in our youth ministry, called REFUGE. It doesn't matter who you are, where you've been, what you look like, or what you've done--if you're a teenager, you belong here. The youth ministry is comprised of grades 6 - 12.The youth ministry has its own building, located on the back side of the church property, apart from the main building. Here, students can hang out in the game room that has a 50's style atmosphere, and play video games, pool, football, air hockey, and board games, before and after each service.Outside, students can hang out or play basketball under the huge, open-air, covered pavilion. The grounds around and in back of the building provide plenty of room for running around or organized games of football, baseball, and volleyball. Skaters also find the set-up here perfect for doing the things they do on their boards. Whatever students are into, they can find it here.The youth building might be great, but we can never compete with the world when it comes to entertainment value. What we do give that the world can't is unconditional love, acceptance, and a safe environment where students can be themselves and know they matter.REFUGE student ministry is led by our youth pastor, Ben Moran, but relies heavily on adult volunteers who have a passion for helping and loving on young people. Wednesday night services start at 6:30pm, with services that includes live worship, teaching, drama, and other elements that communicate God's Word in a way that connects with young people. We don't water down the Gospel, only communicate it in a way teenagers understand.In addition to our regular weekly services, we participate in other fun activities, such as concerts, retreats, movie nights, 5th Quarters, road trips, paint-ball, etc.If you are a Jr. High or High School student, or are the parent of one, come check out REFUGE and see what the buzz is all about.Contact: Ben Moran903.980.8016 <
